2009 Youth State Championships

Youth Championship Tournament Rules

1.        ELIGIBILITY – Youth Bowlers who are current league bowlers (minimum of 30 strings by the date of your event) at Massachusetts Bowling Association (MBA) or Western New England Candlepin Association (WNECA) centers may participate in this tournament if both of the following conditions apply:                                                                    a. The bowler is currently attending school (K through High School) and

                                b. The bowler has NOT bowled competitively in an adult state or international tournament, adult TV roll-offs or World Candlepin Bowling Congress

                                Bowlers may only bowl once in the singles, once in the doubles and once in the team events anywhere. Proof of WEEKLY participation may be required.

2.        AGE DETERMINATION – A bowler’s age for this tournament shall be his/her age on April 25, 2009.

3.        AGE CLASSIFICATION – In Singles events and “All Events”, bowlers may only bowl in their own age group.  In Doubles and Team events bowlers may move up to higher age groups.  Age classification for Doubles and Team events are determined by the age of the oldest bowler.

4.        SAME BOWLING CENTER – Bowlers participating together in Doubles or Team events MUST COME from the same bowling center.  EXCEPTION: Host Centers may supply “Substitute” bowlers to fill out Doubles or Teams when necessary.

5.        PLAYING RULES – All International Candlepin Bowling Association (ICBA) rules will be used during tournament play.  This includes foul and lob line rules.  Bowlers who continue to lob after proper warnings from tournament officials may be disqualified.

6.        PLAYING AREA – Only bowlers, designated scorekeepers, tournament officials and employees are permitted in the bowling area.  All others must remain behind the bowling area.  No food or beverages will be permitted in the bowling area.

7.        ALL EVENTS – To compete in the “All Events” event bowlers must fill out a separate entry for, check the “All Events” block and submit it with the $3.00 entry fee to the host center PRIOR to bowling in his/her first event.  Bowler must compete in Singles, Doubles and Team events at the same host center.

8.        SUBSTITUTIONS – There are no substitutions in the Singles event.  Doubles or Teams requiring a substitute may do so up to the starting time of the event providing at least one of the original bowlers will still participate.  The substitute bowler must be in the same age group or younger than the bowler he/she is replacing.  ELIGIBILITY and SAME BOWLING CENTER rules apply to substitutes. (Rules 1 and 4 above)

9.        SPORTSMANSHIP – All bowlers and spectators are expected to exercise the highest level of good sportsmanship.  Using unfair tactics, causing distractions to other bowlers, swearing or abusing bowling equipment may be cause for disqualification.

10.     SMOKING – Tournament participants, spectators or tournament staff will not be permitted to smoke inside the bowling center.

11.     PROOF OF AGE REQUIRED – The tournament director may require at his/her discretion that a bowler provide proof of age within a reasonable time.  Anyone requested to provide proof of age who does not, may be disqualified from the tournament.  In a team or doubles event, the entire entry would be disqualified.

12.     QUESTIONABLE INCIDENTS – In the event that a questionable incident occurs that is not covered by the ICBA rules or these tournament rules, the Tournament Director will decide the matter.

13.     ENTRY DEADLINE – Positively no entry will be accepted after April 25, 2009.  Entries received by mail must be postmarked by April 25, 2009.

14.     ARRIVAL TIMES – All bowlers should plan to arrive AT LEAST 30 MINUTES prior to the scheduled event starting time.

15.     SCHOLARSHIPS – United States Savings Bonds will be purchased for each scholarship winner and will be distributed shortly after the Youth Championship Banquet.

16.     GENERAL – Entry fees are not refundable for any reason.  In case of ties in the top 3 positions, there will be NO roll-off, but duplicate trophies will be awarded.  The host center director reserves the right to add or delete shifts as necessary.  All decisions of the tournament director shall be final.

Explanation of Events, Awards and Scholarships

 

EVENTS:

  SINGLES – One girl or one boy in a 5 string event.      DOUBLES – Two girls or two boys in a 5 string event.              TEAMS – Five girls or five boys in a three string event.

 

AWARDS – In the Singles, Doubles and Team Events the 1st place winners (girls and boys) in each age group (Midget, Junior, Senior) will receive 2 Awards Banquet tickets.  Exception: A bowler can receive more than 1 trophy but can NOT receive more than 2 Awards Banquet tickets. The top 3 bowlers in each age group (girls and boys) receive a trophy or award.  Each bowler at each event will receive an MBA certificate good for 2 strings of open bowling at your participating MBA or WNECA bowling center. 

HIGH SINGLE The bowler in each age group (girl & boy) with the highest single string receives a trophy and 2 Awards Banquet tickets.

ALL EVENTS – Determined by combining the bowler’s 13 string total (all bowled at the same center). 1st place winner in each age group (girls and boys) receives 2 Awards Banquet tickets.  Top 3 bowlers (girls and boys) in each age group receive trophies.

SCHOLARSHIP – The All Events winners (1 girl and 1 boy) with the highest score from each of the 3 host centers will compete for the following MBA Proprietor’s Scholarships on Saturday May 16, 2009 at 1:00 PM at Lanes & Games, Rte 2, Cambridge.
